The School of Engineering Technology at Purdue University has a full-time opening at its New Albany, Indiana campus, beginning in January 2018 or no later than August 2018. This position may be filled as either a Visiting Assistant Professor or as a Continuing Lecturer in the area of digital and power electronics, including application to mechatronics and robotics. It is expected that the person filling this opening will apply for a permanent position at the end of the initial two years.
Principal Duties
The Purdue Polytechnic transformation requires faculty with both high technical competence and the ability and desire to teach using active learning and course delivery in multiple instructional formats. We are looking for candidates to teach students in our Electrical Engineering Technology (EET) program with strengths in the application of digital and power electronics. Candidates must have the ability to adapt this content for students in the mechatronics and robotics majors within the Manufacturing Engineering Technology (MFET) program.
As the EET programs grow at our statewide locations, there will be an increased demand for these courses. A new hire will have some expectation for distance education and limited travel/teaching at both locations: Columbus and New Albany. A Visiting Assistant will be expected to contribute to scholarship, service and mentoring at the location.
Qualifications
Applicants must have an earned doctorate or MS in electrical engineering technology, engineering, computer science, or a related discipline with preference to academic credentials that clearly demonstrate both high technical competence and outstanding teaching. This position requires the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing for both classroom effectiveness and external engagement. People with the proven ability to contribute to an inclusive workplace are particularly encouraged to apply. Relevant, recent industrial experience and prior teaching experience are highly desirable. The determination of Visiting Assistant or Continuing Lecturer will be based on the applicant’s credentials and potential for a scholarship of teaching and learning.
Application Procedure
Submission should include 1) a cover letter stating the position and location being applied for, 2) a resume or CV, 3) a clear statement of teaching, 4) a statement addressing inclusivity, and 5) the names of three references. All applications should be submitted to soetsearch@purdue.edu, with the subject line: EET/Robotics/Mechatronics | New Albany | Posting #003803-2017.
Screening will begin December 1, 2017, and conclude when the position is filled. A background check is required for employment in this position.
