Our guest presenters, Dr. Marilyn Barger, Principal Investigator and Executive Director of the Florida Advanced Technological Education Center of Excellence (FLATE), and her colleagues from community colleges, Gary Morgan, Dan Horine, and Doug Laven, will talk about the growing number of associate level degree (AS) programs in Mechatronics, reflecting the nation-wide need for mechatronics, automation, and robotics technicians.
They will describe the skills graduates of these programs gain, and discuss the program curriculum, aligning with several international, industry valued credentials and providing work-based learning experiences to students. They will also describe their best practices for working with industry partners.

Dr. Barger is the Principal Investigator and Executive Director of FLATE, housed at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Florida. FLATE is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and it serves technical education pathways and programs in Florida that support the manufacturing industry cluster. Dr. Barger has been developing and delivering STEM curriculum for K-20 students and educators for over 20 years. She has initiated long-term, systemic education reforms. Dr. Barger is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Florida, holds a licensed patent and has authored ten peer-reviewed journal articles.
